When you start a 14-day trial for any paid plan:
- You must provide a credit card – it’s required to prevent abuse.
- Stripe verifies your card; you are not charged until the trial ends. Your bank may briefly show a verification hold, which is released automatically.
- You will not be billed during the trial period.
- If you cancel before the trial ends, you will never be charged.
- If you do not cancel, your subscription automatically converts to a recurring paid plan after 14 days, and your card will be charged the applicable monthly/yearly fee.
You can cancel anytime from your dashboard. No hidden fees.

Great question — and the answer is yes, with one thing to keep in mind.
The web dashboard runs the exact same CLI engine under the hood. Same measurement logic, same benchmark methodology, same algorithms. The code is identical.
The only difference is location — when you run the CLI on your machine, results reflect your local network and its distance to the resolvers, endpoints or hosts you test. When you run it on BuildTools, results are measured from your account's home region — Germany by default.
Think of it this way:
- CLI on your machine → "how fast is DNS from where I am?"
- BuildTools dashboard → "how fast is DNS from a neutral EU reference point?"
Both are accurate. Both use the same engine. They're just measuring from different vantage points — which is actually useful for spotting whether an issue is local to you or global.

Nothing is broken — WebSockets can occasionally miss a broadcast due to how browsers handle background connections. This is normal behaviour, not a bug. Your monitoring session is running perfectly on our end.
You might notice this in a few places:
- A check card not updating during an active session
- The "next check" column on your sessions list appearing frozen
- A processing button staying disabled after stopping a session
- The stop button not visually updating despite a success notification
In all cases the action completed successfully on our end — the success notification confirms it. The UI will self-recover on the next broadcast automatically. A hard refresh or navigating away and back will instantly catch everything up.
One more thing worth knowing: after your final check completes, BuildTools runs one additional lightweight sync to make sure your dashboard and charts are fully up to date. No extra testing happening — just us making sure everything looks exactly right before handing results back to you.

How BuildTools (buildtools.net) collects and uses personal data, under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Data controller

What we collect
- Account: name, email address, password (stored hashed), and sign-in data from Google if you choose to sign in with Google.
- Billing: plan, billing cycle, subscription and invoice records. Card details go directly to Stripe; we never see or store full card numbers.
- Fraud prevention and security: at signup we check your IP address and email address with IPQualityScore. Cloudflare Turnstile checks your browser on our forms to tell people from bots.
- Service data: what you run and its results: DNS domains and resolvers, HTTP endpoints and load tests, SSL hosts and certificates, monitoring sessions, alerts, API keys and API usage.
- Report logo: the image you upload, if your plan includes custom report logos.
- Withdrawals: if you withdraw from a subscription, the name, email and time you give us, and the refund made.
- Emails: messages you send to us and the transactional emails we send you.
Why we use it (legal bases)
- To provide the service and your subscription: running your tools, alerts, billing and support (contract, Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
- To meet legal obligations: invoices and tax records, withdrawal records (Art. 6(1)(c)).
- To protect the service: fraud prevention, bot protection and security (legitimate interests, Art. 6(1)(f)). You can object to this processing.
Automated fraud check: the IPQualityScore check can stop a signup automatically when the risk score is high. If that happens to you, email us and a person will review it.
Who processes it for us
- Hetzner Online GmbH (Germany): hosting. Our servers and databases are in the EU.
- Stripe: payments, refunds and invoices (Stripe Payments Europe Ltd, Ireland, with Stripe, Inc. in the United States).
- Cloudflare, Inc. (United States): Turnstile bot protection.
- IPQualityScore (United States): IP address and email risk checks.
- Zoho (Zoho Mail and ZeptoMail): sending and receiving email.
- Google: only if you choose to sign in with Google.
Some of these providers are outside the European Economic Area, in particular in the United States. Those transfers rely on an EU adequacy decision (such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, for certified providers) or on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses in each provider’s data processing terms. We don’t sell your data.
How long we keep it
- Account and service data: while your account exists. Benchmark and monitoring results are deleted after your plan’s retention period, shown on the pricing page.
- After you delete your account: everything is erased after a 30-day grace period, during which you can cancel the deletion.
- Invoices: 10 years, as Italian law requires (art. 2220 Civil Code). They contain your name and billing details.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your data we will tell you as the GDPR requires.
Your rights
- Access: see your data in the dashboard, or ask us for a copy.
- Rectification: update your profile at any time.
- Erasure: delete your account from Profile → Security.
- Restriction and objection: ask us to limit processing, or object to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Portability: ask us for an export of your data.
- Complaint: you can complain to the Italian data protection authority, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali, or to the authority where you live.

These Terms govern your use of BuildTools (buildtools.net): its websites, web dashboard, API and related services. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them.
1. Who provides BuildTools

2. Account & eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials and API keys confidential.
3. Plans & trials
Free plan: no payment details required, never charged.
Pro trial: the Pro plan can start with a 14-day free trial, once per account. A card is required; Stripe verifies it and nothing is charged during the trial. If you cancel before the trial ends you are never charged; otherwise the subscription continues as a paid plan at the monthly or yearly price you chose.
Plan features and limits are those shown on the pricing page when you subscribe. Features marked Planned are not part of any plan until they are released.
4. Cancellation & right of withdrawal
You can cancel at any time from Subscription & Billing: the subscription stops renewing and stays active until the end of the paid period. Within 14 days of subscribing you can also withdraw from the contract and get every payment refunded in full; see the Refund Policy and Right of Withdrawal.
5. Payments
Payments are processed by Stripe, in euro (€). BuildTools never sees or stores your full card details.
6. Acceptable use
Only benchmark, monitor or load-test hosts, resolvers, endpoints and certificates you own or are authorised to test. Do not use BuildTools to disrupt, overload or attack systems, for unauthorised scraping, or in breach of any law. We may suspend accounts that violate these Terms.
7. Availability
We work to keep BuildTools available, but the service is provided without an uptime guarantee: no current plan includes a service-level agreement. Measurements reflect network conditions at the time they are taken.
8. Intellectual property
The BuildTools web application, its interface and content belong to its provider (section 1). You receive a non-exclusive, revocable licence to use the service for your business or personal projects. The net-benchmark command-line tool is open-source software under the MIT License, which governs its use.
9. Changes & termination
We may update these Terms. We tell registered users about material changes by email before they take effect; if you don't agree, you can cancel before then. We may terminate accounts that breach these Terms.
10. Governing law
These Terms are governed by Italian law, and disputes go to the courts of Varese, Italy. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live and may bring proceedings in your local courts.

How payments, cancellations and refunds work for BuildTools (buildtools.net) subscriptions. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights apply in addition to this policy.
Free plan
The free plan needs no payment details and is never charged.
Free trial
The Pro plan can start with a 14-day free trial, once per account. A card is required: Stripe verifies it, and nothing is charged until the trial ends. Your bank may briefly show a verification hold, which is released automatically. If you cancel before the trial ends, you are never charged. If you don't, the subscription continues as a paid plan and your card is charged the monthly or yearly price you chose.
Right of withdrawal: 14 days, full refund
You can withdraw from your subscription within 14 days of subscribing, without giving a reason. If it started with a free trial, the 14 days run from the day you started the trial. Use Withdraw from contract in your account, or email us at info@buildtools.net. Your subscription ends immediately, and we refund every payment for it in full, to your original payment method, within 14 days of receiving your withdrawal. Withdrawal terms and model form.
After the 14 days
Cancel anytime from Subscription & Billing: your subscription stops renewing and you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for. Partial periods are not refunded, except where the law requires it.
How refunds are paid
Refunds go through Stripe to the payment method you used. Banks usually show them within 5–10 business days.

No warranty
BuildTools (buildtools.net) provides its services “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free or completely secure. Benchmark and monitoring results reflect network conditions when they are measured.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, BuildTools and its provider are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, including loss of profits, data or business, arising from your use of or inability to use the service. This does not limit liability for wilful misconduct or gross negligence, or any liability that cannot be limited by law, including your rights as a consumer.
Third-party services
BuildTools relies on third-party services (Hetzner, Stripe, Cloudflare, IPQualityScore, Zoho, and Google for optional sign-in). We are not responsible for their own privacy practices or availability.

BuildTools provides software tools, not legal, financial or professional advice. Reports, grades and compliance-related results are technical evidence, not certifications. You are responsible for complying with the laws that apply to your use of the tools.
